The Advisory Board was set up by Urras Shomhairle in April 2006 to oversee the creation of the Sorley MacLean Online resource, the aim of which is to disseminate knowledge and increase understanding of the poet’s work, and his national and international reputation and influence. The online resource is being built up in stages to create an authoritative online resource to assist scholarship and education, encourage a wider understanding of Gaelic literature, and promote general enjoyment of Sorley MacLean’s poetry.
Having successfully completed the main phase of its work and with no funding in place for a phase 2 the Board was disbanded in April 2008
The Advisory Board members were:
Dr Meg Bateman, Poet and Lecturer, Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, UHI
Professor Norman N. Gillies, Director of Sabhal Mor Ostaig, UHI;
Dr Ann Matheson, formerly National Library of Scotland (Chairman);
Dr Máire Ní hAnnrachain, University of Maynooth;
Dr Christopher Whyte, writer, academic and researcher on Sorley MacLean's work, is Special Adviser to the Advisory Board.
The researchers were Mr Alasdair Campbell, freelance journalist and translator, and writer and columnist Ms Chrissie Dick.
The trustees record their warm thanks to all concerned with the provision of this splendid resource and especially to the Advisory Board chairman, Dr Ann Matheson, whose two inspirational papers, 'An Outline Proposal' and 'Implementation Stage 1' mapped the way ahead.
